Lou Fellingham – “There is A Day”

“There Is a Day” by Phatfish

The song is based on this verse:  “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”

1 John 3:2 (NIV)

Poem: Footprints in the Snow

Footprints in the snow poem

I had a dream one wintry night as the moon was full and bright.

Before me was an evergreen tree, standing alone, just like me.

Then a man came walking by whose caring look caught my eye.

It was Jesus walking there, calmly in the cold night air.

In my heart at once I knew, all I’d learned of Him was true.

He’s the light in children’s eyes and shining stars in clear night skies.

Life’s answer to each hurt and wrong, the peace we’ve needed for so long.

It was the holy Christmas season, and He had come by for a reason.

He put a bow on top of the tree, as a symbol of His gift for me.

I woke up thinking of what I’d dreamed, amazed at how real it all had seemed.

Beyond my window, I heard not a sound; falling snow was covering the ground.

On the tree I saw a beautiful bow, crimson red on the pure white snow.

Streamers were flowing down the tree, like the blood He shed for me.

I was in awe of the bright red bow – then I saw His footprints in the snow.

Pope Francis Kisses the Feet of Prisoners

Prisoners Feet kissed by Pope Francis

Last year, Pope Francis broke with tradition to hold a major Easter Week service at Casal del Marmo young offenders’ prison in Rome, telling fifty inmates: “I’m happy to be with you. Don’t give up hope.”  The Pope then washed and kissed the feet of twelve young prisoners; some were Gypsies or North African migrants, and were not necessarily Catholic.

Vatican Radio carried the Mass live.  Pope Francis told the detainees that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples on the eve of his crucifixion in a gesture of love and service

“This is a symbol, it is a sign – washing your feet means I am at your service,” Francis told the youngsters. “Help one another. This is what Jesus teaches us. This is what I do. And I do it with my heart. I do this with my heart because it is my duty, as a priest and bishop I must be at your service.”

Later, the Vatican released a limited video of the ritual, showing Francis washing black feet, white feet, male feet, female feet and even a foot with tattoos.

Sacred Stairs – Pilgrims Climb on Their Knees

Image

Christians believe that Jesus climbed steps on his way to the judgement hall in Pontius Pilate’s palace. These same steps were preserved and later restored.  As a gift to the Holy See in 326 A.D. from Constantine the Great (orchestrated by his mother, St. Helena), the steps were relocated from Jerusalem to their current site at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. This artifact is among the holiest relics of the Roman Catholic Church.

The set of 28 white marble steps is encased in a protective wood covering. Worshippers believe the stairway is holy because of Jesus’ footsteps on it.  Indeed, pilgrims are only allowed to ascend on their knees. This kneeling position allows them to gaze through holes in the wood which allegedly reveal spots of Christ’s blood on the marble beneath.

Several popes have undergone the ritual of ascending these sacred steps on their knees.

“Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” Lyrics sung by Taya Smith & Matt Crocker, Hillsong UNITED

Image

VERSE

You call me out upon the waters

The great unknown where feet may fail

And there I find You in the mystery

In oceans deep my faith will stand

CHORUS

I will call upon Your Name

And keep my eyes above the waves

When oceans rise

My soul will rest in Your embrace

For I am Yours and You are mine

VERSE

Your grace abounds in deepest waters

Your sovereign hand will be my guide

Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me

You’ve never failed and You won’t start now

BRIDGE

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders

Let me walk upon the waters

Wherever You would call me

Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander

And my faith will be made stronger

In the presence of my Saviour

FINAL CHORUS

I will call upon Your Name

Keep my eyes above the waves

My soul will rest in Your embrace

I am Yours and You are mine

Lyrics written by Joel Houston, Matt Crocker, Salomon Lighthelm.

Wallenda Walks the Wire across Niagara Falls

Image

On June 15, 2012, in elk-suede-soled slippers Nik Wallenda hopped onto a tightrope that stretched over Niagara Falls from the US to Canada. With his father’s encouraging voice in his ear, he balanced himself with a 30-foot pole and praised Jesus Christ with each tiptoed step.

The 33-year-old Wallenda follows in the footsteps of a funambulist family. In the last seven generations, several have perished during their daring acts. In this tradition that continually raises the stakes, he became the first person to walk directly over the falls.

He began like a ballerina with cautiously pointed footwork. It was a spectacular promenade over 1,800 feet of wire. Near the end, he threw caution to the wind and raced to the open arms of his waiting family. The Canadian authorities (gleefully) stamped his American passport. Nik Wallenda declared that he hadn’t brought anything with him, apart from his passport and a balancing pole.
